Hey everyone! My name is Claire and I’m currently in the process of getting my M.Ed in STEM Leadership through the University of Maryland College of Education at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Man, what a mouthful.
As for how I got here, I’m a proud Maryland native, growing up in Howard County and attending the University of Maryland. I started off as a neurophysiology major, but had a change of heart and switched to education junior year. I managed to still graduate in four years with my B.S. in Elementary Education. From the moment I had heard about the STEM leadership program from my mentor, I knew it was the perfect program for me, combining my original love of science with my new passion for teaching. It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to apply what I learn in class into my 5th grade classroom in Bethesda.
Though I’m only on campus once a week, I see different people every single day. The campus at USG is like none other, and it’s why I love being a student here. People of different ages, cultures, and vastly different backgrounds all roam this campus, whether it’s all day or a short burst during the week, like me. When I’m not teaching full time, I’m in class, coaching, or tutoring. With everything on my plate, I make sure there’s still time for the things I enjoy that I can actually relax with: working out, reading, and deep-couch sitting with some Netflix.
Hopefully, with this blog, we can all support each other in our (perhaps multiple) endeavors, even if we can’t do so in person.
