I recently had the honor of representing my peers as the undergraduate student speaker at the UMD Board of Advisors meeting for the Robert H. Smith School of Business. This experience has been nothing short of transformative, especially considering my journey as a first-generation college student and a transfer.
As a first-gen student, every achievement feels like breaking new ground. Graduating debt-free this May is not just a personal victory but a testament to the unwavering support I’ve received from mentors, advisors, and family. It’s a dream realized, a door opened to endless possibilities.
Standing before the Board of Advisors, I felt a profound sense of responsibility and gratitude. Here I was, a representative of a diverse student body, entrusted with sharing insights and perspectives that could shape the future of our institution. It was a moment of empowerment, realizing that my voice mattered and could make a difference.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of this experience was the opportunity to connect with Dean Konana, Dean Boyd, and all of the board members. We discussed challenges, aspirations, and the importance of inclusivity in education and leadership. These conversations reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration and diverse voices in driving meaningful change.
Being part of the Robert H. Smith School of Business has been a transformative experience. The knowledge, skills, and networks I’ve gained here are invaluable as I prepare to embark on the next chapter of my journey. I am deeply grateful for every opportunity and lesson learned along the way.
As I reflect on this experience, I am filled with optimism and determination. I believe that with hard work, resilience, and support, every first-gen student can achieve their dreams and make a positive impact. My journey as a debt-free graduate and student speaker is a testament to that belief, and I am excited to see where this path leads next.
Go Terps!
