As if you were not already enjoying all of the perks of attending the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), the institution has given you one more reason to love it. You can now receive student discounts with your USG Student ID.

I have found that taking advantage of these discounts is one of the best ways to have fun while sticking to my budget. As I  live and breathe the local saying from my country Guyana,  “rain, ah fall ah roof, yuh put barrel fuh ketch am,” (meaning: there are opportunities everywhere, and you must grasp them). What’s even better is that you don’t need to travel far to enjoy this benefit and feel the power of your USG ID. All you need to do is take a walk around the Grove (perfect for your Fitbit tracking) and show your USG ID at any of the places indicated on the flyer below.

The power of the USG ID was made possible through the efforts of many people at USG, who are continuously working to add more student discounts to the list. This is, again, in addition to the numerous perks of attending USG as shown here and if you don’t use them, it will likely be more costly to enjoy a bunch of these. That’s not bad at all!

Equipped with this list, I have adopted the mentality that many of you have regarding Pokémon and being the best Pokémon master. Yes, I will be trying to catch ‘em all!

Yes, catching all these discounts is my real test and making sure everyone knows about them is my cause. The picture below shows my frequent travel on Wednesdays from USG to Quench, where the 10% discount and awesome service from my favorite bartender Erin and the MD crab sandwich are totally worth the 7 minutes’ walk.

It’s tough out there for us students, and it’s safe to say, I will continue to battle every day as I barely have two pennies to rub together. The Bukhara Indian Spice Craze, 5-10% discount, is the next that I will be trying to catch.
