So I got a head-start on the sun this morning, and began my day at 5:00 am. As nursing students, we spend a lot of time in lecture and lab learning the intricacies of pharmacology and the pathology of diseases, but we also complete hundreds of clinical hours over the course of our four semesters in nursing school. It is during this time that the textbook and course work truly come to life!
This semester, I am doing my Medical-Surgical and Psychiatric clinicals (which begin after spring break). My med-surg clinicals are held on Thursdays and Fridays from 6:00 am- 3:30 pm on a Adult Medical floor. These 5:00 am rise-times are even a challenge for me, a life-long, self-proclaimed early riser. As I write this, I am still reflecting on an incredible day and also preparing myself for what tomorrow will bring.
Today, I had the opportunity to work alongside a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and it was truly INCREDIBLE! I watched with pure amazement at their time-management, technical, and critical thinking skills. A perfect trifecta if you ask me; I was completely captivated.
Well, it’s time for me to sign off and pack my lunch and iron my scrubs for another busy day…who knows what tomorrow will bring.
HAPPY SPRING BREAK USG!
