Can you believe it? The semester is halfway over!
This week is packed with assignments, papers, and exams, but come Saturday, I leave for my Alternative Spring Break Trip to South Carolina.
I am beyond pumped to go on this trip. This will be my second time being part of an ASB team. Last year as a student at Montgomery College, I did disaster relief with Habitat for Humanity in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was an incredible, life-changing experience. I made friends with some of the nicest people, I got to meet the family that we were building a house for, and I created memories to last a lifetime.
By this time next week, I’ll be in Columbia, South Carolina to promote healthcare, education, and children’s wellness. These trips help to understand the issues beyond our USG community. I’m eager to help, and I’m even more excited to use what I’ve learned in my public health classes and apply it to the real world.
I feel incredibly grateful to have been chosen to be a part of something bigger than myself. If you’re interested in what Alternative Breaks are like, take a look at UMD’s site.
Here, you can see all the other trips that students have been on so far, like Haiti, Florida, Guatemala, and Bahamas.
Maybe next year, you can do something different for break. It’s definitely been one of the greatest decisions I’ve made.
