Shriya

Hi! My name is Shriya Koneru and I am in my junior year studying Biocomputational Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), which makes this my second semester at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) campus!

I was raised outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and chose UMD at USG for its proximity to the NIH, NCI, and other government research facilities. I originally came in as a bioengineering major, and immediately adjusted my class order when Biocomputational Engineering became available at USG. I admire this new program for many reasons, but the main would be for its added computer science component. By learning computational sciences while in undergraduate studies, I have vastly larger and unique possibilities for my future career.

Aside from being a student blogger, I balance a few other extracurriculars. Firstly, I am currently continuing my internship with Fredrick National Laboratories, where I am implementing a statistical processing and controls module within their LIMS system. I am also a part of Alpha Omega Epsilon, which is a half-social and half-professional organization on UMD College Park’s main campus. Finally, I am a part of Control AI which is the new club the biocomputational engineering students started on the USG campus.

Outside of academics and organizations, I prioritize working out, spending time with my friends and family, traveling, hiking, sporting events, reading, and now, cooking! I make sure to carve out a few hours every day to ensure I stay balanced with my physical health and social life within my busy academic life! Nevertheless, I am still learning and growing which is why I am so excited to bring you all along on the adventure of my third year of undergraduate studies!
