Finding new opportunities can be a lot like picking apples- there are literally hundreds of bright red juicy apples dangling all around you, ripe and ready to be plucked, and college students have access to the most fruitful apple trees.
Our twenties- the age that defines us. This is the time where the decisions that we make, the opportunities we take, and the people we surround ourselves with, will all determine the rest of our lives.
Yes, now is the time to fill our baskets to the rim with bright and shiny apples.
This semester, I am fortunate enough to have my own basket overflowing with fresh opportunities:
I accepted an internship with the USG Office of Student Services, where I will be working for the student newspaper “USG Weekly”. I’m looking forward to working on a variety of different projects ranging from writing articles, designing flyers, video production, and even producing some of my own ideas for the website. The best part- I’m even getting class credit.
I am continuing my role as Event Manager on The Student Event Board, I’m excited to be working with a team of great people to organize and create memorable events for the student community. Be prepared USG! Our next event will be International Night in March! We are looking for talented people from around the world to join in on the fun.
I joined a few more student organizations this year including: The Student Leadership Association, Campus Kitchen, and The Undergraduate Communication Association. Lastly, I accepted a position as a Bartender in Georgetown where I will be working part time on the weekends.
Instead of viewing this long list of commitments as some sort of a “To-Do List”, I see it as a chance to better myself, and progress my life within every aspect. I won’t let myself be intimidated, rather I’m excited.
Just remember one thing: The key to success is to plan ahead, get organized and then take everything one day at a time, and most of all be happy with what you’re doing.
After all, now is the time for apple picking.
