Lamyea

Hi everyone! My name is Lamyea Diyea, and I’m a junior at the University of Maryland College
Park (UMCP) at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), studying Information Science. I was
born in Bangladesh and moved to the U.S. when I was nine. A first-generation student, I earned my Associate of Arts in Information Systems from Montgomery College before transferring to the University of Maryland to pursue my bachelor’s degree.

I’ve always loved interacting with people from different backgrounds. Learning about different cultures and hearing others’ perspectives has always been an enriching experience. I try to grow from my own life experiences and am passionate about understanding how my journey might resonate with or help others. I believe that sharing our stories can create connections and support those who might relate.

This is my first semester at USG, so I am really excited to get involved and gain more experience. As an InfoSci student, I really want to explore how data and technology can be used to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

As a student blogger on USG’s Around the Grove, I look forward to sharing my experiences navigating college as a first-generation student, offering insights on finding balance and connecting with the diverse community at USG. I’m excited to engage with all of you and hope to inspire conversations that help us learn from each other!
