Hello, everyone! My name is Daniela Garcia-Rojas and I am a senior in the Psychology program offered by UMBC at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). I transferred from Montgomery College where I earned my Associate of Arts degree. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, I’m proud to be a first-generation American and Colombian-American. I also live with physical and learning disabilities, which have shaped my unique journey. My interests include art, writing, and reading. As for hobbies, I enjoy arts and crafts. Some fun facts about myself are that I used to swim, horseback ride, and practice archery.
I am thrilled to be contributing to USG’s Around the Grove student blog and to have the opportunity to share my journey with all of you! I am hoping it will be a collaborative and fruitful experience. I intend to write about important topics affecting student life here at USG, such as mental health, stress management, study techniques and mindset. During my time as a student, I have written pieces on various issues that have piqued my interest, and I love diving into research to explore them further.
My goal after graduation is to become a therapist and bring more insight into a holistic approach to wellness. My unique background has deeply influenced my perspective and approach to psychology, and I hope to share that knowledge and contribute to the field. I also want to continue blogging to bring together education on diverse and shared experiences.
