Spark The Reader In You-Part III ๐Ÿ“š

Back to the basics with one of my favorite blogs to post! I feel like this has become a series of mine, and I haven’t posted a book recommendation blog since June. So gear up, because these books may be some of the best books you have read!

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes By: Suzanne Collinsย

I was always a fan of The Hunger Games series growing up, and just reread those books in January, but this prequel came out and it was amazing! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a dystopian action-adventure novel set 64 years before the events of the first novel, following Coriolanus Snow, who we know as the president of Panem and the 10th annual Hunger Games. The movie for this also came out around November, and it made the story even better. Highly recommend the book and adaptation.ย https://www.scatteredbooks.com/book-reviews/the-ballad-of-songbirds-and-snakes-by-suzanne-collins/

What Once Was Mine. By: Liz Braswell

What Once Was Mine is the first retelling fantasy I have read, and if you are a fan of Disney, you will greatly enjoy not just this one, but every princess retelling the author has published. In this retelling of Tangled, What Once Was Mine shows what could’ve happened if Queen Arianna drank from the wrong flower. When she accidentally drinks from the Moondrop flower instead of the Sundrop flower, Rapunzel is born with a headful of silver hair and the ability not to heal, but hurt. https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/56623541

The Improbable Meet-Cute Novellas

This was a series written by multiple authors and put out on Valentineโ€™s Day. It is a collection of romance novellas. If you don’t know what a novella is, it is a short story or snapshot of a story line. All of these novellas are probably less than 100 pages and super easy, light, and fun to read.

The Leftover Woman By: Jean Kwokย

The Leftover Woman is about a courageous woman fighting to escape and a mother’s love and sacrifice, and how culture and language dramatically change the lens through which we are seen and evaluated by others. I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. It truly was a page turning journey to go through!ย https://www.jeankwok.com/the-leftover-woman

I hope you consider some of these recommendations, and happy reading!

About Ashlynn Battle

Hello everyone! My name is Ashlynn Battle, and I am a junior at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), at the Universities of Shady Grove (USG). I was born in, ironically, the Shady Grove area, and have lived throughout the Germantown/Gaithersburg area my entire life! I recently graduated from Montgomery College with an Associateโ€™s degree in Business, and I am currently studying Marketing at UMDโ€™s R.H Smith School of Business at USG. I am currently working for the Montgomery County Recreation Department, where I lead about 20 elementary school children through an afternoon of recreational activities. I enjoy going out to eat, hanging out with friends and family, traveling, drawing, reading, writing, and listening to music. Although my current favorite thing to do is take my four-year-old energetic Maltipoo to the dog park!
