6 Journal Prompts to reflect 2023

Hello to my dear peers, fellows, and beyond who are reading my last post from this year 2023. I want to extend some of my reflections from this year with you all here; some of them were essential to my mindset, and this year I kept a journal, I feel very happy because I was able, with much effort and trial, to achieve many goals this year. However, I would like to extend a cordial invitation for all of us here to bid farewell to the year in a slightly more subtle way. Even if we couldn’t achieve certain goals from our list this year, let’s feel very proud of ourselves for having completed another year of challenges, stepping out of our comfort zones, and being resilient so far… yay!

Below, you can use these prompts either in your virtual or physical journey or in any other way and answer those questions with your own experience. Let’s grab your favorite pajamas, and fav drink, and let your thoughts and feelings out!

  1. How have my experiences this year influenced, my self-awareness and understanding of my inner world? note: this year shaped my self-awareness profoundly. Amid challenges and joys, I discovered new layers of myself, making this journey a beautifully humanizing experience.  
  2. Reflect on the significant moments or achievements that have contributed to my personal. Growth and insights. note: key moments and achievements shaped my growth and insights, adding depth to my journey.
  3. In what ways have challenges or difficulties offered opportunities for self-reflection and learning?
    note: school challenges, like a tough research project, paper forced me to reflect and adapt. It became a learning opportunity, showing me resilience and sharpening my problem-solving skills.

  4. Describe the meaningful relationships or connections that have impacted your personal development and understanding of yourself.
    note: during undergrad, a study group became a catalyst for growth. Beyond academics, these connections offered diverse perspectives and a deeper self-understanding through shared challenges.

  5. What insights or lessons have you learned about yourself and others that have deepened your understanding of life?
    note: a disagreement with a friend taught me the power of empathy and open communication. Life’s intricacies became clearer through the lens of compassion, deepening my understanding of both me and others.

  6. How have personal reflections or practices supported your mental clarity and emotional well-being this year?
    note: often hikes became my mental sanctuary this year. The rhythm of footsteps and nature’s serenity provided clarity and emotional balance amid life’s chaos.

Hello everyone! I’m Karen Chij. I am a junior at the University of Maryland Baltimore, County (UMBC) at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). I was born in Guatemala, and I moved to the U.S. a couple of years ago. I recently graduated from Montgomery College where I got my Associate of General Studies SSAH-core. I started my first semester as a junior in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. I want to pursue my desire to become a social worker so that I can advocate and work with people to help them successfully find well-being, self-esteem, and practice self-care, etc. In addition to being a student blogger. I keep a few other extracurricular activities in check. I am currently the treasurer Psychology Student Association (PSA). Also, I am also in the USGLeads Emerging Leadership program at USG and also actively seeking internship opportunities. I enjoy hiking with friends and spending time with my family. I’ve started this year with my journeying and have a list of topics I intend to write about including self-care, hobbies, adventures, struggles as a first-generation student, manifesting, burning out, and other things that are on my mind!
