Do’s and Don’ts of Winter Break

Do #1

Take the much needed time to relax and unwind after the long semester. Catch up on your sleep, watch some of your favorite shows, and neglect the feeling of “Oh I forgot to turn in that assignment!” You deserve this break.

Do #2

Embrace the holiday season by spending time with your friends and family. Make sure that you are having fun and enjoying the festivities. Plan lots of enjoyable activities, share how your semester went, and savor delicious food.

Do #3

Try to stay active! It’s important to prioritize both your mental and physical health over this break. Sign up for your local gym, go on runs with your favorite music playlist, or even search YouTube for some in-home exercises and Pilates!

Do #4

Register for your spring classes. Just in case you forgot—here is your quick reminder. Make sure you are signed up for the right classes and create a schedule ahead of time so that next semester can be enjoyable for you.

Don’t #1

Use the break to overwhelm yourself with studying, working, or planning. You might have a winter class—or even some other work that needs your attention. But it’s important that you allow yourself some time to relax.

Don’t #2

Isolate yourself and forget to hang out/stay in contact with your friends and family. Balance both your social life and your non-social life by being kind to yourself and your needs.

Don’t #3

Overschedule the activities you plan to do during break. I know personally that I have been meaning to do so much within the next few weeks, but it’s okay to realize that I won’t be able to get to everything, and so should you. Don’t give yourself a burnout by all the plans that you make.

Don’t #4

Be on your electronic devices the whole break. Give your eyes time to relax and look away for 20 seconds and blink a few times (I think? I saw it on an ad somewhere). Make sure that you are not excessively using your screen time. A good way to do that is to set some settings on your phone.
