My name is Beimnet Getachew. I am a senior at University of Maryland Global Campus (formly UMUC). I grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and moved to Maryland in 2013 with my family to pursue the American Dream. I went to Sherwood High School when I first started my academic journey in America, and after graduating high school I attended Montgomery College (MC) in Takoma park. After three years of studying at MC I received my Associate degree in the studies of Computer Information Systems. Then I decided to transfer to UMGC at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), to complete my bachelor’s degree in Digital Media and Web Technology.
I love watching films, and one of my goal is to create my own. Now by being USG’s first-ever Around the Grove vlogger I have an opportunity to create and show my films here. Other than filming I love making digital designs, building websites, photography and music.
This past fall I was a Marketing and Communications intern for USG’s Career and Internship Services Center (CISC). That was a big experience for me, I was able to create deigns, photograph different events, and learned about the marketing side of the digital world by taking over the social media page of the department.
USG is a great place for student like me, it is a diverse school where you can meet students that are from different countries all over the world. I love meeting students that have different perspectives of the world, and that way I learn new things. My vlogs will be showing that side of USG this spring semester, and I am very excited to share that.
If you can please comment and share these vlogs on your social media too, I appreciate it. And say hello if you see me filming around the Grove, don’t be shy, I would love to tell everyone’s stories at USG.
