Hi, my name is Elizabeth. This is my final year at the University of Maryland, College Park at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG). I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Public Health and during the fall semester I will be living and taking classes in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.
I am passionate about health in its entirety: physical, mental, and spiritual. I hope to one day work in International Health with vulnerable populations, such as, refugees. Part of my studies in Brazil will be focused on traditional medical practices and it will be interesting to see how disease and illness is treated in a different cultural context then my own. I am debating what my next steps will be after completing my degree in May but I do know that I want to pursue a Masters degree.
I love to travel and plan adventure trips! This summer I went to Paris, London and Dublin. Last summer I went to Spain to do the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage (Way of St. James). I didn’t have enough time to do the whole 40-day pilgrimage so I plan to return after graduation and walk the full 500 miles. When I’m not trotting around the globe or the Grove I’m usually found crafting, reading, or watching LOTR.
I am excited about being a blogger for USG as it will help me stay connected with my fellow students during my time abroad. I’m also excited to share my journey towards graduation, the friendships made, experiences lived, and the excitement for what’s ahead. Follow me on my journey and feel free to leave me comments.
