SPARK THE READER IN YOU!

One hobby that I have come to love again is reading, and last semester I dived deep into the fictional world to amplify my self-care routine. Here are a few books that may spark the reader in you too!

“It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover is a book about female empowerment and covers major world topics. Although a little tense at times, it’s a beautiful self-love story and romance that I recommend for anyone! I personally find longer books do not catch my attention easily. However, “It Ends With Us” makes reading super simple, being about 400 pages! You can read in-between classes or even on a short break during lunch.

“The Return” by Nicholas Sparks is a romance novel with a slight mystery embedded in the plot. This book taught me not to judge people, because one will truly never know a situation that someone is in. This page turner is about 400 pages, which does not disappoint! I enjoyed reading this book mostly before bed, sticking to about ten pages is perfect to jump start reading again!

“It Starts With Us” by Colleen Hoover is the sequel to “It Ends With Us” and is a romance novel, but focuses on a different couple with a healthier relationship. I enjoyed how lighthearted this book was. It is about 400 pages, and I found that it relieved my stress during a hard week at school. I loved reading this book in the morning with a cup of coffee!

“We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart is a young adult mystery novel that leaves the reader on the edge of their seat! When I started reading this book, I could not put it down. Every page was something new. This book is about 400 pages and contains a lot of dialogue, which I believe makes a book more entertaining and easier to read. “We Were Liars” has a big twist at the end, that does not disappoint!

Implementing reading into my self-care routine has allowed for a positive distraction in the rigorous flow of life! It can be really easy to get stuck in the same constant routine, and taking time for oneself is always beneficial and worth it. I highly recommend picking up one of these books and implementing it into your routine!

About Ashlynn

Hello everyone! My name is Ashlynn Battle, and I am a junior at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), at the Universities of Shady Grove (USG). I was born in, ironically, the Shady Grove area, and have lived throughout the Germantown/Gaithersburg area my entire life! I recently graduated from Montgomery College with an Associate’s degree in Business, and I am currently studying Marketing at UMD’s R.H Smith School of Business at USG. I am currently working for the Montgomery County Recreation Department, where I lead about 20 elementary school children through an afternoon of recreational activities. I enjoy going out to eat, hanging out with friends and family, traveling, drawing, reading, writing, and listening to music. Although my current favorite thing to do is take my four-year-old energetic Maltipoo to the dog park!
